Karla Sue (Staab) Flipse, age 75, of Great Bend, Kansas passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2026, in Great Bend. She was born December 26, 1950, in Gothenburg, Nebraska to Rudolph and Adeline (Gross) Staab.
Karla graduated from Marian High School and then NCK with a nursing degree and Barton County Community College with an associates degree.
Karla was a long-time dedicated nurse providing compassionate care for over 35 years. She was known to share that her last 18 years working in Oncology were her most treasured and rewarding years as a nurse. In her spare time, she enjoyed interior decorating, watching her soap operas and being involved in her children and grandchildren’s lives.
She is survived by her sons, Brian Urban of Bison, Kansas, Brent Urban and wife Lindsey and their children, Blythe Urban, Payton (Lauren) Garrison, Dawson Garrison and Brennon Garrison all of Hays, and Blake Urban of Castle Rock, Colorado and his son, Harrison Urban of Hays; a daughter, Bobbi Jo LaViolette and husband Austin and their children, MacKenzie and Parker all of Great Bend; brothers, Kenneth Staab of Grand Island, Nebraska and Norman Staab of Overland Park, Kansas; and her sisters, Ethel Jordan and Rose Ann Tonne both of Beloit, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Marshall Urban.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at Keithley Funeral Homes and Crematory-Brock's Chapel 2509 Vine Hays, KS 67601. Private family inurnment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Hays.
Memorial visitation will be Tuesday 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM with a combined rosary and vigil service at 6:00 PM. Wednesday visitation will begin at 10:00 AM until service time all at Brock's Chapel.
