Jeffry “Jeff” Groneweg, age 50, of Hays, Kansas, died Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at his home in Hays.

He was born on February 8, 1976, in Oberlin, Kansas, to Robert Dean Groneweg and Mary Ellen Sater. Jeff spent his early years in Oberlin, where he attended and graduated from Decatur Community High School. As a young man, he was involved in the Boy Scouts of America, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. Those experiences cultivated his passion and love for the outdoors, especially camping and spending time at the lake.

Jeff was very skilled at working with his hands. He assisted his father in the refrigeration business, worked in the oil patch, and ultimately worked for Roto-Rooter.

On any given sports weekend, you could find him cheering on his favorite teams, the Kansas City Chiefs and the K-State Wildcats, all while snuggled up with his beloved pugs, Lilly and Lucy.

Jeff was matched, quite literally, with Anissa Pfannenstiel through an online dating app. After a long courtship, the two were married in September 2021 in Hays.

He is survived by his wife, Anissa Groneweg of Hays, Kansas, and her children, Brennan Chacon of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Veronica Chacon of Hays; two stepdaughters, Emma (Eric) Belisle of Wilson, Kansas, and their children, Eli, Emmitt, Ellie, and Eloise, and Olivia Boisvert of New Castle, Maine, and her daughter, Charlie; his father, Robert (Teresa) Groneweg of Butler, Indiana; his mother, Mary Sater Groneweg of Lakewood, Colorado; a sister, Nikki Johnson of Westminster, Colorado; and his grandmother, Peggy Groneweg of Oberlin, Kansas; along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Jeff was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dean Groneweg; his maternal grandparents, John and Ruth Sater; and his beloved English bulldog, Mazie.

A memorial service and celebration of Jeff’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Keithley Funeral Homes and Crematory – Brock’s Chapel, 2509 Vine Street, Hays, Kansas 67601. Jeff’s family will receive guests from 1:00 PM until service time at the funeral chapel.

Suggested attire for Jeff’s funeral is your favorite Kansas City Chiefs jersey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation and/or Ness County Hospital, in care of the funeral chapel.

Cremation is under the direction of Keithley Funeral Homes and Crematory – Brock’s Chapel, 2509 Vine Street, Hays, Kansas 67601.
